I currently reside in central Maine after moving back to my home state twelve years ago from Olympia, Washington. As a child I was given the opportunity to live and travel throughout the United States which certainly sparked my interest in the landscape and art.
My interest in art began at about age four. I remember telling everyone that I was going to become an artist when I grew up. My first gallery exhibition occured when I was just thirteen years old in Omaha, Nebraska.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art, Cum Laude, from the University of Maine at Augusta and an Associate in Technical Arts degree in Commercial Art from Centralia College, Centralia, Washington.
I started using soft pastels about four years ago. I enjoy their application and immediate, intense color. Creating art is my form of meditation and self-healing. I create art that is peaceful, quiet and inspired by nature. I have always been drawn to the gentler side of nature. It is that quiet beauty I try to recreate in my landscapes.
In addition to working in pastel, I also enjoy working in oils, acrylics, graphite and charcoal. I started painting with oils about a year and a half ago and I have discovered that I really enjoy painting still lifes.
Please feel free to browse through the gallery pages, and please email me (see contact page) if you have any questions or you are interested in purchasing one of my paintings.
Thanks for looking,
Jean
